My gameclient is crashing

[ Edited ]
★★ Novice

I downloaded the game last evening.

My computer is fully up to date with drivers, etc, is running Windows 7 64-bit.

The computer works perfectly for everything else I use it for, and works perfectly with Battlefield 2; am a Sr. Network Admin for an International company, I know how computers work..!

The forced download of Origin, and how the game starts from a web browser is ridiculous...

This new "Origin" logon is totally unimpressive.

Every time that I start the game, I can be in-game for about one/two minutes (at very-most), then the audio stops, then the game locks up, or crashes....

I'm no dumb-azz, so I did a bunch of searches, and found articles talking about how you need to modify system settings (such as: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/651459-battlefield-3-sound-problem.ht...).  This did not work.

I've tried to get on the Chat, and they disappear, never responding / answering my **bleep** question/problem....

Have turned in a request to have a Call Back, but when the hell will that be, the middle of the night, when I'm asleep for the work day tomorrow?!?!?

Have read the FAQ's and suggestions that other people had on this, and nothing works.

The only thing that I see, that could "possibly" have any bearing to this issue, is that my video card (GeForce 8800 GTS OC) has only 320Mb of RAM, and the Minimum is supposedly 512Mb of RAM...

This is bullshyt, I want a refund, or someone that knows what in the hell they are doing, and can fix this issue.

Can anyone here help?....

Thank you for listening to my rant, and your hopeful successful assistance.

Well, I'd like to provide an update to those wonderful folks who tried to help me with tips.

This problem was resolved by purchasing a new motherboard and CPU (after also buying a new $400 VGA card)!

EA team was completely worthless, never responded to my problem ticket, and when they did, it was only to relentlessly asked me to answer the same question(s) over and over, which were already documented in the support ticket...  I sat on my hands with this issue for over two months, wasting my time!

Obviously, the Hardware Requirements for the game, are massively understated!

Game works great now, and have been kicking azz, being promoted up half a dozen times already, in a few days of playing.

Good luck all.

Your graphics card is way below minimum system requirements and it's some kind of wonder that the game actually launches.

Please see this link for a comparison between your graphics card and the minimum required graphics card (8800 GT with 512MB): http://www.hwcompare.com/4232/geforce-8800-gt-512mb-vs-geforce-8800-gts-g80-320mb/

As for the customer support interaction, I apologize for the bad experience you've had so far. Your call back was entered into the system yesterday evening (GMT time) and you will be contacted as soon as possible. However, due to the above reasons I'm afraid there is not much we can do to solve the crashing for you, you might want to ask them directly for a refund, if possible.

Well you just found your own problem.not bad for a sr. network specialist Standard smile

Looks like your GFX runs out off memory, and then your computer goes in to self save mode and shutsdown the app causing this error.

But as a specialist you already know this.

You could always try this site:

And check if your thoughts where right!!

Hi Wolf.

Two nights ago, I did get someone from support to call me back.  She indicated, without question, that my problem of having the game crash all the time, was due to my video card.

Well, last night, I went to my local Tiger Direct storefront, and bought a brand new GeForce GTX 670, $411 after tax.

Installed it when I got home, everything works perfectly in Windows, and my Battlefield 2.

Launched Battlefield 3, and the god **bleep** exact same thing....  I"m in the game for about 60 seconds, and it crashes out to the desktop.

I get on the Chat, takes 20 minutes for someone to come online.  We start, I tell the agent what's going on, and then they DISAPPEAR, AGAIN, like ALL my other chat sessions!!!!!!

This is god **bleep** ABSURD!!!!!!!!

I did what they told me I needed for a fix, spent $400, and the game still does not work.

I try to get online support, and it NEVER works, they constantly disappear from the chat sessions.

Then, I tried to click the Call Back, and it was not even available (grayed-out).

What an absolute JOKE.........  How are this business, still "in business"?!?!?

Re: CRASHING!!!! Sorry guys and girls, but this game, and the support for it, ABSOLUTELY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand your frustration, the video card upgrade was a step in the right direction but I think you will need to do a more thorough check of the rest of your hardware.

In the past I had a similar issue where certain games would crash after a short period and others wouldn't. As it turned out, my memory (RAM) was corrupted. I replace the memory sticks and everything was ok, for about 2 days. Then the crashes started happening again. It turned out that the slots for my member on the main board were installed incorrectly! The motherboard was replaced (warrenty) and all my problems went away.

Perhaps a good idea to run a memory check application (Linux based perhaps?) to perform a thorough test of your system.

I thank you for your input, but if this was a memory leak, faulty RAM, or faulty motherboard, I'd be seeing problems in Battlefield 2.

There's a rule of thumb in all computer problems, "if you're having problems, what last changed?", and the only thing is installing Battlefield 3 (and this b.s. Origin software)!...

Hero

For a network specialist these are some messy problemdescriptions.. Tongue out

Anyways, did you do a clean uninstall of your graphics drivers before installing the new ones for your graphics card? And if so, how did you do it?

And as the1andonlywolf mentioned, an errorreport from the eventviewer will help determine if that's the problem.

Personally I always do a clean format of my computer when installing a new graphicscard or motherboard, the drivers for those two components easily messes up when upgrading.

Please accept solutions if they are correct and press the XP button if somebody helped you. This way you help others in the same situation.

Thank you for these follow-up suggesstions.

Am at work right now, so I cannot provide hardware spec's on my gaming rig, but can assure you that the system is way above the Minimum, and even Recommended, to run Battlefield 3.

As I hope you'll give me the benefit of the doubt, I did check all logs within Event Viewer, and there was never anything there indicating a Warning, let alone an Error, for these game-crashing events.  I should have provided that before now.

Last evening, I spent 2+ hours on Hold for one of the EA tech's.  He was really great, and we ran through a list of troubleshooting, but to no avail did we find a resolution.

We found some of these behaviors very suspicious to what PunkBuster would do, to kick you out of a game.  But, and uninstall / reinstall of PB made no change to the behavior.

They're supposed to be calling me back this evening, and get a Senior specialist to look further at this issue.
