Game disconnected: could not join server

★★★ Novice

I started having this problem since August 12. Everything was fine before, I could join any server of my choice. This error came out of the blue and its not getting anywhere. I have not been able to join any server ever since.

This is what happens: Click 'Join Server' ➨ Connecting ➨ Syncing cloud data ➨ Initializing ➨ **BF3 launches in the background** ➨ Logging in ➨ Connecting ➨ Loading level ➨ **BF3 is closed in the background** ➨ Game disconnected: could not join server.

Platform: PC

Specs:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
  • CPU: Core i7 860
  • RAM: 4x4GB DDR3-1600
  • GPU: HD 5850
  • PSU: TT Toughpower 600W

I don't think anything is wrong with my PC, as the game ran perfectly only a few hours before the occurrence of this error.

Things I have tried so far:

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Origin.
  • Deleted temporary files.
  • Tried running it in another OS (Win 8 Release Preview).
  • Tried with another internet connection.
  • Disabled UPnP and SSDP discovery process.
  • Tried different browsers: Firefox, Chrome and IE.
  • Tried different types of servers: Full/Empty/PB on-off/Ranked on-off/Different gametypes-maps etc.
  • Tried joining servers at different times.
  • Updated PunkBuster.
  • Contacted customer service through live chat. I was asked to do a UO trace. Results submitted as instructed. The issue is supposed to be handed over to a senior support staff and I'm supposed to get a reply within 3-4 days, no luck so far.

If anyone is interested, here is the UO trace report:

Can anyone provide a solution?

Problem solved.

warcode2012 and atxmattylight thank you for replying, even though none of the solutions worked.

The problem was with the ISP. Without notifying me, they routed my connection through another IIG (BTCL). After I noticed this and notified them, they re-routed my connection back to the old IIG (Mango). The problem was evident in the UO Trace report, still wondering why EA support staff failed to point it out.

The reason my other connections showed the same problem is that they send their data through BTCL IIG too. So, if you face the same problem, keep this point in mind.

Re: Game disconnected: could not join server

★★ Guide

There's only two things I can really think of in this situation that might help out.

First, uninstall the Battlelog Browser Plugins from the Add/Remove programs list and reinstall it from the website.

Second, opening up ports:

If you are playing on PC, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

If you are playing on PS3, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 10000-10100, 17502, 42127
UDP: 3659, 14000-14016

If you are playing on Xbox 360, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
TCP: 53, 88, 3074
UDP: 53, 88, 3074

For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

★★★ Newbie

I've also had this issue over the last couple of months.

After trying with disabling my firewall, changing my antivirus program (Avast! antivirus causes alot of probles with battlefield 3, if you have issues with playing the gam I would recommend changing to another program like AVG), opening the ports on my router, disabling upnp, etc. I tried calling the EA custumer support.
They asked me to send over the two uo-files and after review told me to change the NAT-type on my internet to 1.
This can be done by calling your internet supplier. Now the game finally works and so far I've been able to join all the servers I have tried.

Before I couldn't sonnect to any and kept getting error messages like "You have been disconnected from EA online Soccer ball" and "Game disconnected: couldn't join".
Hope this helpes you guys! Standard smile

Hi,

What do you mean by IIG?

Is it something to do with routing one by the ISP? How do I identify if this is the same issue for me. I have had this disconnect problem for months!
